# Christmas MathDoku

This resource only just missed our Christmas Activities eBook.

It is a MathDoku, or KenKen type puzzle. We've simplified the more traditional version so that it only includes addition.

The idea is for the children to work together to complete each 5x5 grid - they only have a small number of clues and a few simple rules to follow.

The rules are that:

• the numbers entered into each 'cell' (a number of squares marked out by darker lines) should total the clue number in the top left-hand corner of the cell;
• only the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 should be used;
• as with Sudoku, no number can appear on any row or column more than once.

The pdf file attachment below includes four KenKen puzzles (together with answers).

### Hi, great puzzle to practise

Hi, great puzzle to practise addition in a fun way. I have adapted the grid to make it an all year round activity. I think I will print number cards with 1 - 5 on, then cut the top left corner off so the target number is still visible. This way the children can manipulate the numbers without having to rub out any errors.

That's a really good idea. I've only just downloaded it but I will try it your way with number cards as I think that will be very helpful to the children. Thankyou
